Upper Elementary Curriculum

Holistic Education

Our Upper Elementary curriculum extends the Montessori philosophy of holistic education fostered in the Lower Elementary years. It continues to nurture students as independent learners, while considering each child’s individual needs when planning curriculum. This approach allows students to challenge themselves in their areas of strength while receiving support where they need it most.

The program emphasizes mastery and application of core skills including:

Language Development

  • Strengthening spoken and written expression, including the study of grammar

Mathematics

  • Solidifying mathematical principles and applying them to everyday life

In addition, the curriculum equips students with the tools to develop:

Historical and Geographical Understanding

  • Gaining knowledge of Canada and the world, and applying it to analyze future events

Scientific Literacy

  • Exploring scientific principles, methods, and their real-world applications

Research Skills

  • Using systematic methods to investigate and synthesize information

Thinking & Reflection

  • Cultivating independent, critical, and creative thought

Cultural Awareness

  • Fostering open-mindedness, respect for one’s own culture, and appreciation of others

Character & Responsibility

  • Developing self-respect, respect for others, and care for the environment, leading to independence and responsibility

I feel it’s vital to encourage our children to self direct and become independent. Montessori learning does this and so much more!  – HAMISH, PARENT
